Technology Day!

Dear 5C Family-
At long last the students of 5C have finally filled the postive choices jar of marbles. As the wish was pulled out of the jar a silent cry went out and the reward.... Technology Day! Tomorrow, students will be given most of my class time with them to use technology the students bring themselves. The can bring only what they can carry themselves. No special equipment will be requested but the class does have access for watching movies. Students' technology will not be allowed outside the classroom at recess or lunch and the room will be locked with technology inside during specials. Students are responsible for the technology that they bring. No inappropriate music, movies, or video games should be brought, they will not be allowed. Students will not be allowed to use cell phones to call, text, or chat with people outside the classroom. They will still have Estudios and their 2 specials classes in the afternoon. If students would like to bring a treat or snack to share with the class during the day they need to bring enough for the whole class. I am very proud of their hard work through these first to quarters and they have made a concentrated effort at the end. Please congratulate our 5C members and encourage them to keep doing their very best!

Movement of Social Studies Dates

It was decided that instead of testing students over mapping skills in a formal assessment, they would be given more influential grades on their "Create Your Own Country" Map Project. This project should be finished at home by the student without help from the parent/tutor/guardian etc... Requirements along with the rubric has been glued to the back of the project so the students know exactly what they need to do and how they will be graded. We will have a review exam next week that will include both previous mapping skills and content covered that week. Thanks, Miss Bayes

Reminders!

Today's Math Homework requires information from on of these two this sites: http://www.scribd.com/doc/36121678/FIFA-2010-World-Cup-South-Africa-Stats or http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/statistics/matches/goals.html. Be sure to make a line plot using at least 8 countries and some kind of data from the sites. Don't forget to give it a title!

Yesterday's Math Homework requires the information from this site (sorry about before this one should work; I won't count the homework against you if you don't get a chance to do it!):
http://www.scribd.com/doc/36094645/La-Ceiba

***Don't Forget that tomorrow, Thursday the 19th is the 5th grade meeting/Open House in the Multipurpose Room at 5:00pm. We will have a meeting with all 5th grade sections first (along with Spanish, Estudios, and the counselor), then go back to our individual classes to deal with parties, wish lists, etc... Refreshments will be provided in room 5C at that time. Specials teachers will be located in the art room from 5 -7pm so make sure you stop in to talk with them as well. We have several new teachers on our staff. We hope that each parent or guardian will be able to make it tomorrow night and we looking forward to seeing you then.

**As a reminder to students who are not bus riders. Parents, drivers, nannies, older and younger siblings, etc.. are to wait in the grassy area in front of the Middle School building to pick up/meet students. This reduces the traffic and the loss of students on the way. Students are required to walk with the teacher or assistant to the designated area and will NOT be permitted to accompany anyone not in the designated area. Please help us keep your student safe and accounted for!
