News for October 25th - 29th
Literacy:
- Review punctuation, Punctuation Test, Wednesday, Oct. 27th
- Continue proofing and publishing personal essays on Respect - due Friday, Oct. 29th
Math: - Continue Chapter 3 lessons 8, 9, 10, and 13
- Day to review multiplying with decimals
- If your student recieved below a 90% on their mulitplication timed test, he/she will be given one on Tuesday during lunch and every week following until he/she passes. It is very important that you be studying the times tables at least 5 minutes daily to review!
Science:
We will be leaving Social Studies to go back to Unit A in Science to study the Human Body, we will start with the organization of cells from cells to organisms and cover the muscular and skeletal systems.
**5th Grade Parent Presentation: Thursday, Oct0ber 28th from 11:30 - 1:30 in the multipurpose room - RSVP by Wednesday 10/27 - Please come and join us for a very important topic!
***Friday, October 29th will be our Halloween parade and party. Students are welcomed to come dressed in costumes that are appropriate for school (costume props will only be allowed during the parade and party). The parade will begin around 1:10 after lunch and be followed by the party in our classroom. If students would like to voluntarily bring a treat or something small to share, please make sure there are enough for everyone in class! Students who do not celebrate Halloween are encouraged to come to school until lunch and then can go to the Library during the parade and party!
****Since this is Halloween week we will not have a student of the week. Every student is invited to bring in a picture of them dressed up for Halloween or a harvest party to put on our bulletin board!

News for October 18th - 22nd
Welcome to 2nd Quarter, the perfect time to start afresh on the right foot! Remember RESPECT even when someone is not looking.
Literacy:
- Continue writing Personal Essays on Respect
- Develop our writing using the trait of voice - click for article website on voice
- Types of Punctuation
Math:
- Finish Chapter 3 Section A with lesson 6 and a day to review and practice
- Math Quiz Ch. 3A will be Thursday, October 21st - Review Multiplication properties and know how to use them to solve for products: (click to study)
- Continue with Chapter 3, lesson 8 - decimal patterns
Social Studies:
- Finish Relief Maps and painting them - bring in a small bristle paint brush if you have one at home for Monday!
- Learning about landforms and reviewing coordinates with latitude and longitude
- Geography Assessment will be Friday, October 22nd
*Remember on Tuesday, October 19th we have a late start - Students should be to school by 9:30 that day!
**Students should bring in the 5th grade behavior letter signed by a parent on Monday!
***Colors' Day is Friday, October 22nd - Bring 5 lps.
****Due to a fight involving 4th and 5th graders last Friday afternoon, students will be called in for questioning and there will be a ban on the soccer field for 2 weeks. NO SOCCER FIELD USE FOR ANY 4TH OR 5TH GRADER UNTIL NOVEMBER 2ND!!!

Literacy:
- Begin Trait #3 of the 6+1 Writing Traits: Voice
- Discussion of the Virtue of the Month: Respect
- Begin Personal Essays on Respect
- Types of Puncuation
Math:
- Begin Chapter 3 lessons 1, 2, 4, and 5
- Multiplication Properties
- Be sure to be practicing your mulitplication tables daily if you recieved a letter last week!
Social Studies:
- Relief Map Projects: Please bring in an empty pizza box or other 16x11 piece of cardboard for Tuesday
- Create Your Own Country Project - due Friday, October 15th
- Map Skills Test - Friday, October 15th
**Friday, October 15th is the last day of 1st quarter

- Finish Author's Purpose, Main Idea, and Supporting Details - Quiz will be Tuesday, October 5th
- Work on Parts of Phonics: Antonyms, Synonyms, Homographs, Homophones, Homonyms
Math:
- Chapter 2 lessons 14, 17 - 19: Adding and Subtracting Decimals and problem solving review
- Chapter 2 section C - Quiz will be Friday, October 8th

*By 5th grade students should be able to answer any multiplication table (0-12) in 3 seconds or less. According to Friday's Multiplication timed test, students who scored less than a 90% will receive a letter home. If your child gets this letter it is your equal resp0nsibility to practice the times tables nightly until the student improves. This is a very important foundation in order to accurately complete many other types of math in a timely manner. Thanks in advance for your support.
